We only ask for information we need for these purposes. We do not intentionally collect special personal information, such as health, religion or biometric data, and we ask you not to send it to us.
3. Our legal basis for using it
We use your information where it is needed to perform an agreement with you or take steps you request before one, where the law requires it (for example, the Financial Intelligence Centre Act and property practitioner record-keeping rules), where you have consented, or where we have a legitimate interest that does not override your rights, such as preventing fraud and keeping our records accurate. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where needed, with:
- landlords, tenants, sellers and buyers, to the extent needed for a specific lease or sale;
- conveyancing attorneys, bond originators and banks involved in a property transfer;
- our payment processing and trust account providers, to collect and pay out rent and deposits;
- screening or verification providers, where you have agreed to a check;
- our website, messaging and software service providers, who process information on our behalf under a written agreement;
- regulators and authorities, where the law requires it.
Some of our service providers may store information on servers outside South Africa. Where this happens we take steps to make sure your information stays protected to a standard comparable to POPIA.
5. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as the law requires. Some records, such as identity verification and transaction records, must be kept for a set number of years after a relationship ends. When we no longer need information, we delete or de-identify it.
6. How we protect it
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including limiting access to those who need it and storing documents securely. If there is a security breach that puts your information at risk, we will notify the Information Regulator and affected people as POPIA requires.
7. Your rights
You may ask us to:
- confirm whether we hold information about you and give you a copy;
- correct information that is inaccurate or out of date;
- delete information we no longer need or are not allowed to keep;
- stop using your information for a purpose you object to, or withdraw consent you gave.
Contact us using the details above and we will respond within a reasonable time. We may need to verify your identity first. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za.
8. Cookies and website data
Our website may use cookies and similar tools to make it work, remember your settings and understand how it is used. You can control cookies in your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how parts of the website work. [Update this section to list any analytics or advertising tools you install, such as Google Analytics or a Facebook pixel.]
